Tyler Perry - 'Good Deeds'

Wesley Deeds (Tyler Perry) is a wealthy business man. Raised in a privileged family, he was groomed by his father into assuming the prominent responsibility of becoming CEO of his company, and by his mother (Phylicia Rashad), to become a gentleman. Wesley is engaged and soon to be married to Natalie (Gabriel Union), a young, established career woman. But their relationship brings on a whole new approach when he meets Lindsey (Thandie Newton), a struggling single mother who is an employee of his company's cleaning crew.

'Good Deeds' was an enjoyable movie. It was great seeing Tyler expand more in the sense of being the leading character and playing a serious role. His delivery was believable, for the most part, as it shouldn't be too complicated portraying a wealthy man in a movie when you're a wealthy man in real life. That part was definitely convincing. One part that wasn't so convincing, however, was seeing him act out the romantic scenes, which literally made me cringe in my seat. It was like seeing his 'Madea' character kissing a beauty pageant queen. Bleggghh! Immediately, an awkwardness surrounded the air. The energy in the theater suddenly grew stale, as if everyone was experiencing the same kind of awkwardness that Tyler and the leading lady felt when their lips met. But, I guess it's safe to say that Tyler kissing ANY woman is just plain ole awkward to me. After-all, this is the guy behind that well-known 'Madea' character that I've grown so accustomed to seeing.

But apart from that, the women in the film represented very well. Their acting matched their character as best as to be expected. Overall, I was quite satisfied with it all. Initially, I wasn't extremely eager to see this movie, as Tyler Perry films always seem to have the same typical "black woman struggle" format, which this film also includes. However, this time around, Tyler brought on a slightly new approach when taking on the leading male role, and doing fairly well at it. Though this movie was predictable in every aspect, 'Good Deeds' was quite an uplifting, sit back, relax and feel-good kind of film.
